These limits apply to the email your domain sends from a web hosting or WordPress hosting account: from a mail app, from webmail or from your website.

The hourly limit

Each domain on a web hosting or WordPress hosting plan can send 200 messages an hour.

If you go over the limit, only a small overflow is queued and sent in a later hour. The rest is refused and not sent. So a large mailing should not be sent from hosting.

The server may also block a domain for a while if too many of its messages fail or are deferred, for example when a mailing list holds many old or wrong addresses.

Newsletters and larger mailings

You may send a newsletter to your confirmed opt-in list from hosting, as long as it fits inside the hourly limit. A larger list, or regular campaigns, must go through an SMTP relay plan or a third-party mailing service. VPS and RDP servers may not be used for mass mailing.

Business email mailboxes run on the mailbox provider's platform and follow that provider's limits.

The full rules are in our Email Policy and in section 21, Email Marketing, of our Terms of Service.
