An SPF record lists the servers that may send email for your domain. If you send mail through Lurstan Host and also through another service, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or a newsletter service, add that service to the same record.
A domain should have only one SPF record. Do not add a second one: edit the one you have.
1. Find your current record
- If your domain uses our nameservers (ns1.lurstanhost.net and ns2.lurstanhost.net): log in to cPanel at https://cloud.lurstanhost.net:2083, open Zone Editor, click Manage next to your domain and find the TXT record that starts with
v=spf1. - If your DNS is managed elsewhere: find the TXT record that starts with
v=spf1at that DNS provider.
A record set up by our server looks something like this. Yours may list the same parts in a different order.
v=spf1 ip4:94.249.153.203 +a +mx ~all
2. Add the new service
Keep every part that is already there, so that mail sent from your hosting still passes. Add the new part just before the final ~all (or -all), with a space either side.
Google Workspace
v=spf1 ip4:94.249.153.203 +a +mx include:_spf.google.com ~all
Microsoft 365
v=spf1 ip4:94.249.153.203 +a +mx include:spf.protection.outlook.com ~all
Newsletter and sending services, such as Mailchimp or SendGrid
Follow the service's own domain set-up page. If it gives you an include value for SPF, add it in the same way.
Another server's IP address
Add ip4: followed by the address. For two addresses, add two ip4 parts:
v=spf1 ip4:94.249.153.203 +a +mx ip4:203.0.113.10 ip4:203.0.113.11 ~all
The addresses 203.0.113.10 and 203.0.113.11 are only examples. Use your own.
3. Save and wait
In Zone Editor, click Edit on the record, change the value and save. At another DNS provider, edit the record there. The change can take a few hours to reach every server.
Keep the record short. SPF allows no more than 10 DNS lookups, and each include, a and mx part counts towards that limit. ip4 parts do not.
Not sure what to add? Open a ticket and tell us which services send mail for your domain.
