FTP is not open on our shared hosting server from outside at the moment. If your FTP program cannot connect, or times out, that is the reason. Nothing is wrong with your account.

Until FTP is open, use cPanel File Manager. It works in your web browser: log in at https://cloud.lurstanhost.net:2083 and open Files > File Manager. Our guide How do I upload a large file via FTP? shows the steps.

Once FTP is open, check these

  • Host and port: use cloud.lurstanhost.net and port 21.
  • Encryption: choose explicit FTP over TLS. Implicit FTPS (port 990) and SFTP (port 22) are closed on our shared hosting server at the moment.
  • Username: for the main account it is your cPanel username. For an extra FTP account it is the full name, for example name@yourdomain.com.
  • Password: if you paste it, check that no space has slipped in at the start or end. You can change an FTP account's password in cPanel under Files > FTP Accounts.
  • Transfer mode: use passive mode. Most FTP programs use it by default.
  • Your own network: some office networks, antivirus programs and firewalls block FTP. Try another connection, such as your phone's hotspot.
  • Too many failed logins: after repeated wrong passwords, the server's firewall can block your IP address for a while. Stop trying, check your details, and open a support ticket with your IP address if you are still blocked.

We answer tickets within one working hour, Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30 (Lagos time).
